FABRICS FAQ : outdoor fabrics

Brentano's Outdoor fabrics must resist ultraviolet disintegration, sustain condensation and humidity, remain colorfast to prolonged exposure, and resist the growth of bacteria and fungus. For more information on testing of these categories, please see Outdoor Tests .

Many outdoor textiles are made out of acrylic fibers. However, due to designer and customer demand for more flexible colors as well as commercial fire code and abrasion requirements, manufacturers have developed other polymer yarns to meet outdoor application demands.

The new polymer yarns include polyester and polypropylene fibers. These fibers have higher resistance to hydrolysis and ultraviolet exposure; thus, an increasing number of outdoor fabrics are made out of polyester and polypropylene.

Yes. Both solution dyed and package dyed outdoor textiles can be treated to pass fire codes.
