In order to comply with stringent codes for drapery in commercial buildings, yarn manufacturers developed yarns that are specifically resistant to flames and smoke. Among them, the most commonly used fire retardant yarns in the interior textile industry are Trevira CS. Brentano products woven with Trevira CS are all vertical treatments. In addition to being inherently and permanently flame retardant, Trevira CS textiles are stable in humid environments and can be washed with water and detergent.
Yes. There are two types of washable Trevira CS draperies at Brentano.
First, there are domestically washable Trevira CS sheers and drapery. These textiles can withstand household washing machine hot water temperatures without losing color or shape. However, designers and clients should always use discretion, especially with fabrics woven with special effects such as loose floats and clippings.
Second, there are commercially washable Trevira CS fabrics. These products are labeled washable in the Brentano line and can be machine washed at 176°F (80°C), the standard washing temperature for hospitals and hotels. Please see Fabric Care for washing instructions.
Trevira CS passes NFPA 701 Small Scale, British interior fire codes (BS Standard), and Cruise line fire codes (IMO Standard).
Trevira CS is Oeko-Tex 100 certified, meaning the material contains no harmful substances. Because of its inherent fire-resistance, no additional chemical treatments are needed.
Yes. A majority of Brentano fabrics including drapery and upholstery fabrics can be treated to pass NFPA 701 Small Scale and ASTM E-84 Adhered Method.
